Portraits: 8:07 and Pittsburgh ||
Jason Kambitsis
The Steelyard

8:07: This project is comprised of pictures that I took of myself at 8:07 p.m. est. from March 1st 2003 to March 31st 2003. The pictures are a collage of me changing throughout one month. The clothes change, the hair on my face changes and the background will change. Each snapshot tells a story of what is happening at that moment, throughout different time zones.
Pittsburgh: I have gone into The City of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania (my home town) and have sectioned it off with the use of U.S. Census Tract data to fulfill the restraints of community. The U.S. Census sectioned areas off of approx. 4,000 people to compile race economics and housing to get a picture of the location on paper. I will go in and use their boundaries to get real imagery of the area. These pictures will represent the location visually to help you establish place.

The Steelyard

The Mobile Urban Research Lab is a proposal to help communities anticipate the constant transformation of the urban condition. M.U.R.L. will travel from city to city, establishing itself in contested sites and forming alliances with local organizations, city governments, and the community. A schedule of workshops, performances, and debates is determined with respect to local conditions.

Sage Hut ||
Aaron Handler
Woods-Gerry Grounds
(between Congdom & Prospect on Meeting St.)

Formed out of detritus collected from East Side dumpsters and discarded furniture salvaged from the curb, Sage Hut is a site-specific sensory experience device that is free and open to the public on a 24-hour basis. Essentially a temporary private space located within a public space, to some it is a place of quiet meditation, a place for thinking, reading, or writing. However, how and when the piece is accessed and utilized is completely up to the viewer, leading to any number of interpretations as to its function and purpose.
