Collection and Consumption: A View of our Culture
through Vessels ||

RISD Museum
The collection features vessels found along the industrial shoreline of Narragansett Bay. A glass case and shelves, along with a catalogue, replicate the adjacent Museum display of contemporary hand-crafted ceramic vases, bowls and plates. The inclusion of discarded containers in a museum environment raises questions about the separation between viewer and institution, the reduction of function to display and the consequences of consumption and waste in our American society.

A section of artistically reclaimed space on the coastline of East Providence hosts a semi-permanent gallery, with all works created out of refuses from Narragansett Bay. Bike tours to and from gallery can be arranged at the Steelyard.
