I've been working on
this project compulsively for the last six months, documenting the location
of each broken umbrella I find around my
house in Long Island City, Queens. The project is exactly about place
and psychology, marrying the frustration of my work life to and from
home with the broken and discarded umbrellas I find exactly around my
house.
Mount Washington and
Chicago have moved over because L.I.C. (mostly
around my house) is the windiest place on earth, and there is a silent
umbrella genocide going on right now which I am not afraid to get
involved and make art work about.
In reality, I hope that
my photographs give these umbrellas a new life
after death.
about the artist
Matt Lucas is a photographer/designer in NYC. He began taking photos as early as 7, when his mother gave him his first Hasselblad. Since then, he hasn't done much.
