What is psychogeography?
Psychogeography is the hidden landscape of atmospheres, histories, actions and characters which charge environments. Learn more about psychogeography here.
What is PIPS?
PIPS grew out of a small group of people looking to investigate the urban environment in detail. Many experiments, small and large, have been undertaken since 2001. Our numbers have grown and links to other groups (such as Glowlab) have given us inspiration for further investigation.
What is the Psy-Geo Provflux?
Part festival and part
conference, Provflux brings together visual, performance, and new media artists,
along with writers, urban adventurers and the general public to explore the
physical and psychological landscape of the city. Anchored in two spaces around
Providence, the Provflux will be hosted by CUBE2 (230 Westminster
St., downtown) and The
Steel Yard (27 Sims Ave., Olneyville). Each of the spaces is
unique in providing an alternative center for artistic work, while maintaining
a commitment to the history of the site.
• CUBE2 will exhibit Provflux's gallery show and function
as a meeting location throughout the weekend.
• The Steel Yard, a large arts center in the heart
of Providence, will be home to the larger collaborations and public interventions.
What kind of submissions are you looking for?
PIPS wants to engage as much of Providence (and the world) as possible. We'll host a series of events that range from lectures on architectural theory and Situationist ideology to public interventions and street performances, from walking/ biking tours of the city to arranging games for the public to participate in. We'll show visual works in a gallery setting, and we'll have roving teams create ever-evolving visual work in the urban context.
With Provflux will also come the publication Crosswalk. We encourage anyone with text or images they would like published to submit this material with their application. (Please do not submit essays longer than 1000 words unless you have contacted the editor first).
What if I need to travel to Providence?
PIPS would like to encourage
all those interested to travel to Providence and take part in the activities,
or host one of your own. One of the ideas of the Provflux is to create more
connections between people participating in public interventions. Our Global
Campground will provide free lodging and some food (light breakfasts
and communal dinners), but please make sure to contact us directly for further
information if you are planning to attend.
RSVP by May 20: pipsworks@gmail.com.
What about show fees/ stipends/ other money issues?
There are no submission fees for the Provflux. As we run on a very minimal budget, artists are only responsible for their own travel and personal expenses.
How do I submit to Psy-Geo Provflux 2005?
We are not currently accepting any more submissions for Provflux 2005, but we are always interested in future collaborations. Email us at pipsworks@gmail.com to exchange ideas, plot strategies, and make new discoveries.
