Trace was formed by the words and meanings of "trap and "race." The trap is represented by the physical presence of the rat trap, and race relates to the metaphorical ‘rat race’ of urban life as well as the issue of identity and belonging.
Trace = here I am.
A collection of various objects that carry different wieghts of meanings-- a hairbrush, some film, and a rat trap, for example-- will be on display for the public to interact with by moving and changing the way that the items relate to one another in that place, at that time, by that particular person.
about the artist
Emma Hopkins is interested in supporting projects that reveal something about real, everyday life. Urban environments consist of different physical materials, different identities of people, actions, reactions of people, public transport and private transport, public space and private space. So it seems to her that the concept of, living = moving or movement, but the trophy-vehicles that she has created at a window in her city home support that moment of stillness after assemblage where it is like to be expecting Change.
