:: the invisible architecture of providence ::

documentation CUBE2 :: 5.19 - 6.4

website entartete.sourceforge.net

For the past six months I have been gathering field recordings of the acoustic environment of providence using a variety of recording techniques (contact mics, binaural recordings, generating impulse files of the reverberant characteristics of spaces, etc) I have focused on recording the sounds that providence makes when no one is around, an urban version of the tree falling in the woods question. I have then mapped these sounds to the areas they were recorded from to build a web based interactive audio map that allows users to explore the acoustic environment of providence at any time and from any place.

The interface is based around a pointer that wanders towards the mouse pointer so that the user can influence it's direction but not completely control its wandering. The sounds of the regions the pointer travels through are then played back based on the horizontal and vertical position of the pointer.

about the artist

Damon Baker works toward bringing forth the miraculous world that is present in our every day lives. His work uses technology as a means for spiritual exploration of our physical environment. This piece in particular is designed to reveal the secret hidden face of Providence to all who would look for it.
