space recoveries

Providence Free Store :: Linsey Wallace
Thursday July 12-Sunday July 15 :: 9a-noon :: 64 Eagle Street (White Tate Building)
Inspired by a space on Haight-Ashbury in SF during the hippie invasion of the late sixties where people could get anything from appliances to shoes for free. The principle theme being giving and receiving with no underlying capitalistic agenda. If you are interested in donating goods or services, please email me.

Hubble Bubble :: Pavel Machalek
Friday, July 13 :: 9-12p :: Steel Yard Home Base
The Hubble Bubble is a geodesic dome that will act as a mini-planetarium, open to the public for education and relaxation purposes. Constructed from steel and white tarping, and measuring 18' in diameter, the bubble will offer a soft, cushiony space in which participants may lay down to view images from the Hubble Spacecraft in its interior.

Thirsty Theater :: Unkle Thirsty
Thursday, July 12 :: after dark :: Steel Yard Home Base
Thirsty Theatre delicately probes the balance of passive viewer and active participant. Stimulated by drink, the average theatre goer is encouraged to offer witty retort during feature presentations. Participants are also encouraged to bring video material for review and, as always, all shows are free, unjuried, and open to the public. This Thirsty Theatre will feature video presentations by Marco Villani and Jason Groves.

Urban Agricultural Unit :: PIPS
Thursday, July 12- Sunday, July 15 :: Open concurrent with the Steel Yard Home Base
www.pipsworks.com/uau.html
The Urban Agricultural Unit (UAU) is a mobile greenhouse designed for educational, artistic, and commercial purposes. The project’s intent has been to create a “living sculpture” through the transformation of a discarded shipping trailer into a greenhouse capable of year round production within an urban industrial environment. Utilizing innovative techniques in hydroponic farming, this greenhouse puts into practice a viable option for food production where traditional farming methods may not be implemented. The UAU will be open to the public during the Steel Yard Home Base hub's operational hours.
