about the featured events

The Busycle is a 15 person pedal powered bus. It will be taking its first U.S. Story Telling Tour, visiting cities throughout the country and collect the stories of the people who pedal it. All across the U.S., the Busycle will travel neighborhoods, where anyone willing to pull their weight and pedal can be a Busycle passenger. At the end of the route, a story telling space will be constructed, where everyone has the option of being a participant.

"Some Kinda Funny 'Porto Rican'" will be screened in the Steel Yard theatre, and will include opening remarks by the filmmaker, Claire Andrade-Watkins. Three generations of Cape Verdeans were born and raised in Fox Point, a tight knit neighborhood that stretched along the waterfront of Providence. Uprooted by urban renewal in the l970s, the disbanded Cape Verdeans scattered to other parts of Rhode Island. Yet Fox Point remains "home" - at least in heart and spirit-for Cape Verdeans who lived "down the Point." SOME KIND OF FUNNY "PORTO RICAN"?© chronicles this community's history, music, ties to the old country, and the maritime/seafaring traditions, especially the longshoremen, who "worked the boats" in the Port of Providence.

Provflux's annual Short Film Fest will feature various film pieces made by Provflux participants, and will range from documentary to experimental. Screenings begin at 6p and 11p in the Steel Yard theatre.
